Our Commitment

OpenDoorway is committed to compliance with all federal, state, and local fair housing laws. We believe that everyone deserves equal access to housing opportunities regardless of their background.

The Fair Housing Act

The Fair Housing Act prohibits discrimination in the sale, rental, and financing of housing based on:

  • Race
  • Color
  • Religion
  • Sex (including gender identity and sexual orientation)
  • National Origin
  • Familial Status (families with children under 18)
  • Disability

Texas Fair Housing Laws

In addition to federal protections, Texas fair housing laws provide additional protections. Property owners and managers in Texas must comply with both federal and state fair housing requirements.

  • Not discriminate in advertising or listing descriptions
  • Make reasonable accommodations for persons with disabilities

What This Means for Renters

As a renter, you have the right to:

  • View any property that meets your criteria
  • Apply for any rental without discrimination
  • Be judged solely on legitimate screening criteria
  • Request reasonable accommodations for disabilities
  • File a complaint if you experience discrimination
